Call for a National School Food Program in Every Province and Territory!
To all who helped with our letter-writing campaign in early 2024 calling for the creation of a National School Food Program, THANK YOU!
We are very pleased that the Government of Canada agreed – in Federal Budget 2024 – to fund a National School Food Program.
Unfortunately, most provinces and territories still haven’t signed an agreement with the federal government to bring school food programming to children.
To date only the following jurisdictions have signed agreements with the federal government to accept funding for a school food program in their jurisdiction:
- Newfoundland and Labrador
- Manitoba
- Ontario
- Prince Edward Island
With the cost of living at an all-time-high across the country and knowing that children learn better when provided nutritious food, it feels shameful that provinces and territories would drag their feet on this life-changing initiative.
To call on your provincial or territorial government to stop leaving federal money on the table and – instead – to put food on the table, please sign our letter campaign below.
