Canadian Teachers’ Federation Launches Multi-year “Parachute” Survey Series, Country’s Largest
Ambitious pan-Canadian survey series aims to elevate educator voices and strengthen public education in most comprehensive scan in a generation
October 24, 2024 – Ottawa, Ontario – The Canadian Teachers’ Federation (CTF/FCE), in collaboration with its 18 provincial and territorial Member and Associate Organizations, is excited to announce the launch of its multi-year pan-Canadian educator survey series, Parachute.
The Parachute survey series invites teachers, education workers, principals, and vice-principals from across the country to share their perspectives on critical issues facing the teaching profession. The first survey runs from Monday, October 21 to Friday, November 15.
The fall 2024 survey of Parachute will focus specifically on the working conditions that influence educator retention and recruitment, covering issues like workload, classroom size and complexity, and the rise of school-based aggression and violence.
Parachute represents a bold, national effort to closely monitor the evolving challenges in Canadian public education. Through it, the CTF/FCE and its members aim to capture real-time data on educator experiences and working conditions, with the findings set to inform and direct advocacy efforts from across the country.
“Parachute is a vital initiative designed to ensure that educators’ voices are heard on a national scale,” said Heidi Yetman, President of the Canadian Teachers’ Federation. “The data we aim to collect will be invaluable, and paint a vivid picture nationally, and in every province and territory. By listening to those at the heart of the system, we can advocate for the changes that educators need to thrive, and ultimately ensure that Canadian students receive the best possible education.”
Eligibility
The Parachute survey series is open to teachers, education workers, principals, and vice-principals. Participants will be provided with an opportunity to voice their concerns and provide input on the current state of education in Canada.
Initial results of the survey will be published at www.ctf-fce.ca in late November 2024.
